There is no pot of gold

The promise of riches from a data center for a small town in Wisconsin are a mirage. State law prevents the promise of massive tax revenue from becoming usable new tax levy for a small community, and school districts lose $1 in state aid for every $1 in new data center revenue.

The best case scenario is a reduction in local property taxes for residents, coupled with a steep discount on the tax bill of the data center owner as well. The municipal budget will see limited levy increase followed by a worsened growth problem.

I wish I were wrong, if only for the communities that have already approved their projects.
